Han Dolman appointed as chair of the Global Climate Observing System steering committee

Professor Han Dolman (Earth sciences) will become from today, chair of the Global Climate Observing System (GCOS) steering committee. He takes the chair for a period of at least two years.

Dolman will seek to further standardize the observing system and integrate the needs of scientific and commercial partners to further improve our knowledge of the global climate system.  

The Global Climate Observing System (GCOS) was founded by various UN institutions in 1997 to improve and standardize observations of the global climate system. Amongst many other things, GCOS helps defining the Essential Climate Variables (ECV) which are instrumental in developing satellite missions and research programs. Read more about GCOS.
