Physics and Astronomy

The World is facing great challenges. Physicists play an important part in finding solutions. Natural resources are running out, while the demand for oil increases. This means we have to find new sources of energy and means to store energy. People live longer, earth’s population is ever growing. By unraveling the physics of cells and organisms, we can develop new medical techniques. And discover new methods to create food and energy, using nature’s examples.

Physics at VU University Amsterdam therefore is physics of Life and Energy. This also applies to the bachelor and master programs of the department. With the fundamental knowledge that students obtain during their education, they can contribute to science and society, now and in the future. Alumni of the VU work as researchers at universities and research centers and at companies as Philips, Océ, ASML, Shell and Accenture.
